Five Groups Submit Proposal For Nagasaki Casino

Maintenance, Under Construction, In The Construction

The request for proposal phase for the Nagasaki casino project is currently underway. Five groups have submitted documents in line with the phase. According to last week’s announcement by the committee, the process is moving fast. The committee has kept the names of the groups anonymous.

Reports suggest that the groups were drawn from Asia, US, and Europe.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the applicants and their partner companies for making their applications during a time when the world continues to fight Covid-19,” said Mr Hodo Nakamura, Nagasaki prefecture’s governor in a statement. “We will continue to follow the national basic policy and proceed with a rigorous review for our IR operator selection,” he added.

The proposed plan is to create a casino resort right at the heart of Sasebo City. Under the proposed plan, the announcement of the first round of selection will come in March. It is expected that the numbers of applicants will be reduced from five to three.

Nagasaki’s IR project group insists that a probity test would be carried out on the final three partners. The final selection process would start in May. It is expected that project presentations would take place in August before the an IR operator is picked.

The Need For Casino Resort

Japanese local-government vying for casino resort complex must identify a private-sector partner first, before they can send their application to the national government.

Japanese local governments interested in having a casino resort complex must first find a private-sector partner, then apply to the national government to host one.

The Japanese government confirmed its national basic policy on IRs in December. The government also mentioned that the central authorities would be opened to local government submissions from October 2021.

Come 2022, there will be a resolution on the Nagasaki’s casino resort project by the prefectural government and Sasebo City Council. This will come up before the final submission to the national government.

The final assessment process is slated for 2022, with final approval penned down for 2023. The plan is for the casino to open its doors between 2025 and 2028
